How do I get the NBA injury report in Python?
The NBA injury report as of October 11: 129 listed players, 19 of them out, with injury type, status and expected return date.
Code verified October 12, 2026. One call to get_injuries, 2 credits.
The call
Returns the latest day captured. Pass team for one club, date for the report as of an earlier day, and league: "wnba" for the WNBA. status is Out or Day-To-Day.
import requests
import pandas as pd
API_KEY = "YOUR_API_KEY"
resp = requests.post(
"https://mcp.dunkapi.com/v1/get_injuries",
headers={"x-api-key": API_KEY},
json={},
timeout=60,
)
resp.raise_for_status()
data = resp.json()["data"]
inj = pd.DataFrame(data["injuries"])
print("report for", data["date"], "-", len(inj), "players listed")
print(inj["status"].value_counts())
out = inj[inj["status"] == "Out"]
print(out[["name", "team", "position", "type", "return_date"]].head(10).to_string(index=False))
print(inj.groupby("team").size().sort_values(ascending=False).head(5))
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with a key from your dashboard. Python needs requests and pandas (pip install requests pandas). JavaScript runs on Node 18 or newer, or in the browser.
What comes back
The data object of the response, trimmed to the first rows. Every field is real output from the run above.
