Against the spread
also: ATS · cover
Whether a team won by more than the point spread, so a loss can still be a cover and a win can still be a miss.
A spread of -5.5 asks the favorite to win by six or more. If it wins by five, the underdog covers. A push happens when the margin lands exactly on a whole-number spread.
get_odds reports each game's result against the line next to the line itself, so an ATS record is a filter, not a calculation you do by hand.
The common mistake
ATS records over a season run near 50% by design, since the spread is set to split the action. A 55% record needs several hundred games before it means anything.
