Line movement

How a sportsbook's spread, total or moneyline changed between the time it was posted and tip-off.

Lines move as bets arrive and news lands: an injury, a rest day, a lineup change. A spread that moves two points toward a team in a day is a signal about what the market learned.

We take a snapshot of each posted line once a day before every game from launch. That shows the direction and size of a move, though not the hour it happened.

The common mistake

Daily snapshots miss intraday moves. A line can swing and settle back between two snapshots without leaving a trace.
