Clutch
also: clutch time
The last five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime with the score within five points.
Clutch is a filter on the play-by-play, not a skill rating. A play counts if it happens in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter or any overtime, and the margin is five points or less at that moment.
Because the filter works on plays, you can ask who takes the shots in those minutes and what they are worth in expected points, not only who made them.
The common mistake
Clutch samples are small, often a few dozen shots a season. A hot or cold stretch there says little about a player.
